Dramatic, precise, and impossible to ignore. American Tango brings the raw intensity of the ballroom floor to life — sharp footwork, powerful connection, and a style that commands every room you walk into.
About the Style
American Tango was developed in the United States in the early 20th century from the original Argentine Tango, refined for ballroom competition and social dancing. It retains the sharp, dramatic character of the tango but incorporates a more open frame, side-by-side work, and theatrical style elements that distinguish it from its Argentine parent.
At DFW Social Dance Studio, we teach American-style Tango — staccato footwork, strong posture, and the characteristic snaps and figure work that give this dance its theatrical edge. It's a dance that demands presence and precision, and rewards both.
American Tango is unlike any other ballroom dance. The sharpness, the drama, the silence between movements — it's a dance with genuine character. If you want to look completely unlike anyone else on the floor, this is it.
