About the Style

What is Country Waltz?

Country Waltz is a relaxed, flowing take on the classic ballroom Waltz, adapted for the country music that fills Texas dance halls and honky-tonks. Danced in 3/4 time with the same rise-and-fall quality as its ballroom cousin, Country Waltz has a more casual, natural feel — perfect for slow, heartfelt country songs.

At DFW Social Dance Studio, we teach Country Waltz as both a standalone style and a complement to Two-Step for anyone building their country dance toolkit. The timing is easy to pick up, the movements feel natural, and the slow tempo gives plenty of room to focus on connection and musicality.

Country Waltz is the dance for slow songs at country venues. It's romantic, graceful, and useful at everything from a Friday night at a honky-tonk to a wedding reception. Once you have it, you'll never sit out a slow country waltz again.
