Slow & Close
Bolero

Slow, sweeping, and deeply romantic. Bolero is the dance of love — smooth, flowing movement that feels like the music itself is holding you and your partner together in perfect stillness and warmth.

About the Style

What is Bolero?

Bolero is the slowest of all the Latin dances, and in many ways the most intimate. It emerged from Cuban and Spanish musical traditions in the 19th century and found its way into ballroom dance in the early 20th century as a style centered on slow, controlled movement and close partner connection.

At DFW Social Dance Studio, we teach American Rhythm Bolero — a graceful, floor-based style that emphasizes smooth weight transfers, subtle hip movement, and expressive upper body work. The slow tempo gives you space to breathe, feel the music, and connect with your partner in a way that faster dances don't allow.

Bolero is often underestimated. Because it looks simple, people expect it to be easy — but the control, balance, and musicality it demands make it one of the most technically refined dances in the Latin family. For dancers who want to deepen their artistry, it's essential.
