Sensual, romantic, and impossible not to feel. Bachata starts in the heart — a Dominican rhythm that draws partners close and lets the music guide every gentle sway, subtle hip motion, and dip.
About the Style
Bachata is a romantic partner dance from the Dominican Republic, danced to a gentle 4/4 rhythm with a characteristic hip movement on the fourth beat. It emerged from the streets of Santo Domingo in the 1960s and has since spread across the world, picking up sensual styling and fusion influences along the way.
At DFW Social Dance Studio, we teach traditional Dominican Bachata alongside the modern sensual style — giving you the foundation to dance comfortably in any social setting, from salsa clubs to weddings to backyard parties.
Bachata is one of the most beginner-friendly partner dances you can learn. The basic step is simple, the music is everywhere, and the connection it creates with a partner is unlike almost anything else on a dance floor.
