Fierce, rhythmic, and dripping with attitude. Mambo hits on every beat with a punchy, syncopated energy unlike any other Latin style — once you feel the clave pulse through your feet, you'll never want to stop.
About the Style
Mambo is a Cuban dance form that exploded onto the international scene in the late 1940s and 1950s, driven by the bold orchestral arrangements of musicians like Pérez Prado. It's danced "On2" — on the second beat — which gives it a distinct syncopated energy that separates it from its descendant, Salsa.
At DFW Social Dance Studio, we teach Mambo as both a standalone style and an extension of the Salsa vocabulary. The footwork, body movement, and timing give you a deeper understanding of Cuban-rooted dance music — and they make you a sharper, more musical dancer across the board.
Mambo is bold, rhythmic, and full of personality. It rewards dancers who want to go deeper into the music — and it's a natural next step for anyone who's fallen in love with Salsa and wants to expand their range.
