About the Style

What is Samba?

Samba is Brazil's most iconic dance, inseparable from the energy of Carnival and the rhythms of Brazilian music. Danced to a fast 2/4 rhythm with a unique "samba bounce" — a slight flexion and extension through the knees — it has a feel unlike anything else in the Latin dance family.

At DFW Social Dance Studio, we teach ballroom Samba alongside elements of street Samba styles. The bounce action is the first thing to work on — once you internalize it, everything else in the dance becomes more natural and more alive.

Samba is upbeat, celebratory, and immediately infectious. It's one of those dances where the music alone will make you want to move — and once you have the footwork, you won't be able to stop.
