Athletic, improvisational, and full of soul. Lindy Hop is the original swing dance — born in Harlem, built for jazz, and still the most expressive and free-spirited partner dance on any floor.
About the Style
Lindy Hop is the original swing dance, born in Harlem, New York in the late 1920s alongside the rise of jazz. It's named — by popular legend — after Charles Lindbergh's transatlantic flight and became the dominant social dance of the swing era: improvisational, expressive, and deeply rooted in African-American culture and music.
At DFW Social Dance Studio, we teach Lindy Hop as a living dance — one that keeps evolving while staying connected to its roots. You'll work on the 8-count basic, the swing-out, Charleston variations, and the improvisational spirit that makes Lindy Hop unique among all partner dances.
Lindy Hop is often described as the "grandfather" of all swing dances — and learning it gives you a deeper appreciation for the entire family of swing styles. It's creative, collaborative, and one of the most joyful dances you'll ever put on your feet.
